In our latest textile debut, Elegant Universe, we put forth a collection of textiles that pays tribute to the concerted efforts and infinite connection points that fashion together this extraordinary planet of ours—all through a lens of science, femininity and technology. In further celebration of this compendium, we wanted to take a moment and call attention to the team that helped breathe life into the threads of this collection. Here’s a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of Elegant Universe.
THE ROLE
As the interior stylist on the project, I helped pull Jodi’s vision into tangible items like furniture, draperies, lighting, & pillows.
THE FEEL
I love the typical S. Harris vibe of unique color combinations and patterns and textiles that have a lot of longevity behind them. This is an updated classic collection that was designed to be enjoyed for years to come.
THE GAME PLAN
The process involved understanding the collection through Jodi’s eyes and how she wanted to release the collection to the public. There is so much thought and attention to detail that goes into this process and this collection. It involves creating not only a visual impact, but also an impact on culture, and our society.
THE SHOWSTOPPERS
I love the use and update of archival documents that Jodi found. I think it is an amazing way to bring life back into classic patterns.
THE PROJECT
I love opportunities where a client wants to stretch the creative limits and think the unimaginable. As the Elegant Universe collection photographer, we essentially created a fantasy world using textiles and incorporating florals and animals.
THE ALLURE
What appeals most to me about this collection are the textures and patterns. There is something for everyone and I love how everything can be mixed and matched so effortlessly.
THE CAPTURE
The creative process was incredibly thought-provoking. To produce this shoot, we started months in advance planning and brainstorming ideas that would best represent the collection. From picking out the wallcoverings and fabrics that would be used, to trim details and furniture for applications- it involved so many key players to make this shoot come together.
THE MONEY SHOT
I am most excited to see this collection living in the interiors of people’s homes and businesses! It’s that moment of walking in and being able to say… “Hey! That’s from the Elegant Universe Collection!” - That’s going to be a super exciting moment!
THE GOAL
When collaborating with S.Harris to create video content for Elegant Universe, our goal was to capture the story of the collection in a way that showcased the fabrics uniquely while highlighting the people who inspired them.
THE MUSE
This intersection between modern design and traditional patterns within Elegant Universe is so compelling. The vibrant colors and rich textures provoke a bright energy inspired by the world around us. The task of integrating the outside world into a collection of interior design products through video was such a fun challenge and adventure!
THE VISION
The creative process to bring Elegant Universe to life through video started with a vision of immersing the viewer in a world of design by transporting them from a physical bedroom to the outside world that inspired the designs of the collection. By showcasing nature, animals, water, and sky, you’re able to see the aspirational elements of the collection beyond the bedroom.
THE STORY
Having the opportunity to take the fabrics into an outside world of pecan groves, open fields, bee farms, and natural lakes opened the doors to storytelling in a unique way. Additionally, the rich stories behind the fabrics within this collection give meaning to design in such a deep and impactful way – showcasing women thought-leaders through creativity and empowerment.
