It's All Material: Color Journey

Written by Jodi Finer | Oct 12, 2020 8:39:18 PM

Color has always been an intrinsic part of my creative process, but it’s certainly ever-evolving as I continue to learn more about its origin—where it comes from and how it's built into the framework of our lives—that continues to keep me on my toes. An understanding of color requires consistent research and mine has led me to Keith Recker’s book True Colors: World Masters of Natural Dyes and Pigments. Here, Keith shares his vast knowledge of color: How Cobalt first originated on Egyptian ceramics and further taking his readers to West Africa, China, Bangladesh, Northern California, and the United Kingdom for a more saturated look into the origins of pigment. Having had deep conversations with twenty-eight artisans from every part of the globe, Keith reveals their wisdom, traditions, and color know-how. Through my recent color exploration, I’ve begun to make parallels between our brand principles, the richness of color, and how it impacts us. I am diving into more historical and psychological facets of the world of color and hope to share more with you along the way. Below is a peek at some colorful touchpoints of current inspiration as they relate to the S. Harris brand.
